The extent of your impact on the world depends on the size of your devotion to excellence.
Robin Sharma
Throughout this series, we’re taking an up-close look at each one of our core values. Today we want to dive into Excellence: what it is, why it’s something we value and how it impacts the work we do.
What is Excellence?
Wikipedia defines excellence as “a talent or quality which is unusually good and so surpasses ordinary standards.” When individuals or businesses operate from a place of excellence, you can’t help but notice them because they stand head and shoulders above the crowd. While people possess many inherent qualities, excellence is something deliberately cultivated one day at a time through hard, wise, smart work. It is a journey as opposed to a destination and requires both an attitude of humility and a mentality of growth.
Excellence vs. Perfection
Many strive for perfection. While the word may conjure up ideas of something noble and grandiose, perfection is unattainable and will always elude you. Striving for perfection will lead to discouragement and inadvertently inhibit growth. Striving for excellence, on the other hand, requires a series of incremental steps day in and day out that build on your individual passions and strengths.
An article on www.thepositivelane.com - Why You Should Strive for Excellence - describes it this way, “From a business perspective, it is (also) important that we don’t get dragged into the pursuit of perfection. By its nature, striving for perfection is a long-term pursuit. The world is changing so rapidly that if you wait until everything is perfect, your competitor will be way ahead of you and your customer has probably gone somewhere else. When you strive for excellence, your customers will enjoy the results of your continued improvement every day.”
What does Excellence mean at KimbleCo?
At KimbleCo, we believe that our clients deserve extraordinary services and products. We are willing to go above and beyond even when more time and effort are required.
How do we cultivate Excellence?
One of the tools that teaches us how to utilize our strengths to benefit our customers is the Gallup organization’s CliftonStrengths. Through the use of personality assessment tools and backed by tremendous research, this program helps people identify their innate strengths that in turn help them succeed. One “talent theme” that our team members possess is that of the Maximzer. Individuals with Maximizer strengths seek to transform something strong into something superb. They want to demonstrate the impact of high-quality standards on every project. In this way, we strive for excellence both personally and professionally and each one of our clients reap the benefits.
At KimbleCo, we want to make an impact both one-on-one and industry-wide by operating as a company that lives out our standard of excellence. Take time to consider how striving for excellence can impact your life and the world around you.
“If you are going to achieve excellence in big things, you develop the habit in little matters. Excellence is not an exception, it’s a prevailing attitude.”
Colin Powell
